Why Are They All White?
Why are they all so…white?” is a question I ended up asking myself earlier today when I was looking up Farmhouse Kitchen designs. Maybe you have asked yourself the same question before, and ive done the research to give you that answer. To put it simply, white has been an extremely popular kitchen color for decades. To slap it onto the newest trend isnt new, and im sure it will continue to be applied to a lot of future trends; but maybe you are looking for a different take, maybe a different taste?
White can be an oppressive color. It makes everything look generic, boring and sterile. While it can look very rural, too much of it and it looks ugly. I want to walk into my kitchen and feel like im in my grandmothers kitchen, not a hospital. Too much white can make it feel like it isnt authentic, it makes it feel too oppressive and boring. I gathered a small list to show off the possible alternatives to the stereotypical white.
Slate Gray
A simpler color for a simpler time. Slate gray can bring a modern take on your country kitchen. A good alternative to the omnipresent white, gray is a perfect choice for someone that wants a cool-colored kitchen that will evoke a feeling of the perfect rainy day in your country kitchen.
Cool Blue
Want a color that will bring the clouds into your kitchen? Powder blue is the perfect color for someone that wants a kitchen that will inspire serenity and calmness. A lighter color to fill your kitchen that will keep it vibrant, but wont intrude with blindingly bright shades of color.
Canary Yellow
The color of warmth and joy, Yellow will pop in the style of a country kitchen. Filled with vibrancy, you cant help but smile when you smell a freshly baked pie among your vibrant kitchen. Its awe-inspiring shades will bring you back to a time of child-like glee in the sweet summer sun.
There are many colors to choose from, and whatever you decide to paint your kitchen; you are always going to need one thing: Paint. Have you ever started a paint project, only to get the wrong tint? I know I have, recently however; I found a website that allows me to find the exact color I want, and how it would look in my kitchen. I upload an image of the space I want to paint, mix and match the different paint chips, and Wha-Lah I’m an Interior Decorator.
But, I still have an issue with color choices and matches. I found a decorator that could help me.
It’s a shortcut to the best, timeless, most popular Sherwin Williams paint colors that she has personally proven, tried and tested in real life.
Its called Paint Color Cheat Sheets™ – with the idea that now you won’t have to wade through hundreds or thousands of paint colors anymore, in order to find the right one. she has done all the hard work for you, eliminated all the wrong options and narrowed down the choices to only the best few (like the “right answers” in a paint color deck). It is a little pricy and I didn’t get it right away, but after messing up a color choice and blowing a gallon of paint I reconsidered. For the price of that miss-tint gallon I could have avoided the mistake and have a cool resource in my tool bag.
