What is art? What is vintage?
One of my favorite things to do is create art from vintage junk. Not everyone appreciates my talents, but I like it. Art is something I like to look at, arranged in an interesting way, something that has meaning to me. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Vintage is in the heart of the beholder. Vintage has value because of a memory of something in our lives.
A fond memory for me is a hot summer afternoon working in the yard with my Dad. When we finished he would take my brother and I to the corner gas station and buy us an Orange Crush and a candy bar from the vending machines. So now I’m stuck with a fondness for old vending machines and anything related to old gas stations. See how that works. But it is what it is, our memories are a part of us. The best Vintage art and wall décor we can do for ourselves will reflect our personalities and character. Build it, hang it on the wall. If it makes you smile you did it right.
I was remodeling an old house and I didn’t want to get rid of the antique door hardware.
I spent the time to refurbish the hinges and rebuild the lock mechanism. I found them fascinating and beautiful, so I mounted some of them as a assemblage on an old quarter sawn drawer side. Most people don’t get it, but its lovely to me. As you can probably tell I’m partial to old door hardware
I think you can make some Farmhouse wall décor out of anything you like. What do you like? I like a lot of things. Old telephones, coffee grinders, botanical prints, old maps. I like to find frames and matts at the Goodwill and re-purpose them. I first find the frame I like then find something on eBay to fit in them. A botanical print for $8. An old phone for $18 and mounted it on a piece of oak. A broken coffee grinder for $10 and mounted it on a piece of oak. An old religious shadow box frame from grandmas attic I re-purposed with some old collectables I had laying around.
I think it all makes great wall art for my Farmhouse décor, its stuff that I like. I understand not everyone has the time or incredible talent to make their own wall art. I’m looking for some great vintage replica pieces you can buy. We will be posting a new affiliate page soon.
